Eloqua popular segments - Full Contact Pool

(Right-click and select View Image to see larger versions of the animated gifs on this page.)
Add contacts who have given to your CSU

1) Create a new segment, choose the Filter Criteria option, and select Compare Contact Fields on the right (either by double-clicking or dragging/dropping onto the canvas).

2) Double-click on the criteria to open the popup window and choose Gifts to CSU. Change the second field from 'exactly' to 'contains' (this field includes a list of every CSU to which a contact has given, so it's possible to have multiple values). Enter your two-character CSU code in the third field (Development/DB is used in this example).  Click anywhere outside the popup window to close it.

Add your parent-level CSU's contact pool

NOTE: Contact security labels are set up at a parent CSU level, though there are some exceptions for units that operate independently. If you are attempting to see your entire possible contact pool, you might need to enter your parent CSU information.

3) Select another Compare Contact Fields criteria. Once you add additional criteria, an AND button is inserted between the two criteria statements (AND is the default). Click on the AND button, which will change it to OR.

4) Double-click on the criteria, and choose the opt_in field for your CSU. (These fields are, for the most part, set at the parent CSU level; departments within a larger college - COLA, Natural Sciences, or McCombs, for example - will share the same opt_in header). Leave the second field as 'exactly', and enter '1' in the third field.  (The opt_in headers are binary fields, and only accept 0 (no) or 1 (yes)).  Click anywhere outside the popup window to close it.

Add your CSU's degree holders

NOTE: Not all CSUs using Eloqua issue degrees. Adding the following criteria will not exclude anyone from your pool, but if you know your CSU does not issue degrees, you can skip ahead and proceed to step 8 (Involvements).

5) Choose Has Linked Contact in Custom Object from the criteria list. Since you chose OR between the first two criteria, the operator between the second and third criteria should default to OR as well (if not, for some reason, click to change it).

6) Double-click on the criteria, choose Degrees from the list, and click Add.  Doing so will open another popup.

7) Double-click where specified to edit the field condition. From the dropdown menu, select CSU, leave the second field as 'exactly', and enter your two-character CSU code in the third field. Click Finish, then click anywhere outside the popup window to close it.

Add contacts that have any involvements with your CSU (activity codes, for instance)

8) Choose another Has Linked Contact in Custom Object criteria. Make sure the operator says OR.

9) Double-click on the criteria, choose Involvements from the list, and click Add.  Doing so will open another popup.

10) Double-click where specified. From the dropdown menu, select CSU, leave the second field as 'exactly', and enter your two-character CSU code in the third field. Click Finish, then click anywhere outside the popup window to close it.

11) Click Save to calculate your total.
