Deji Akinwande, alongside Materials Science Ph.D. alumnus Ruijing Ge, has received a U.S. patent for a key discovery achieved at UT Austin. This patent highlights the impact of advanced materials research at UT Austin.

Special Seminar: Dakotah Thompson
"Misbehaving metals: from anomalous radiative transport to non-Drude behavior"
Dakotah Thompson has been a faculty member in the Mechanical Engineering department at UW-Madison since 2019. Dakotah earned his Ph.D. at the University of Michigan in 2018, and his B.S. at Georgia Tech in 2012. Dakotah’s core technical expertise is in nanofabrication and heat flow calorimetry, and he has published several high-impact works in the field of radiative thermal transport.

Edison Lecture Series 2026
The Edison Lecture Series, held on February 6, 2026, was an interactive STEM learning experience that introduces middle and high school students to the exciting world of electrical and computer engineering. Through engaging, university-style lectures and hands-on demonstrations, students explore core engineering concepts and see them brought to life in real time. Raluca Gearba, pictured, was a part of this inspiring initiative.

STEM Girl Day with TMI was a great success! Held on February 28th, 2026, the event welcomed students for an engaging, hands-on exploration of materials science and electron microscopy. Participants experienced interactive demonstrations and learned about the exciting possibilities within STEM fields.
