The New Frontiers of Sound Science and Technology Center (NewFoS STC) at the University of Arizone has been named Innovator of the Year – Academia at the 2025 Arizona Governor’s Celebration of Innovation. Dr. Yuebing Zheng, a Core Faculty member of TMI and professor in Mechanical Engineering, is part of the collaboration between UT Austin and NewFoS in topological acoustics alongside other partner institutions.
Materials Science & Engineering graduate student Wenlong Li, along with Mechanical Engineering graduate students Ayrton Yanyachi and Junyi Xia and under the direction of Dr. Yijin Liu, have published a collaborative paper that focuses on the charging protocols used in consumer electronics and electric vehicles. Also contributing to the paper were former MS&E student Dr. Yixian Wang, TMI-affiliate David Mitlin, and Mechanical Engineering professors Ofodike Ezekoye and Junmin Wang
Jonathan Chen Gives Lecture at Kyoto Institute of Technology
Dr. Jonathan Chen, a professor in the School of Human Ecology and a core faculty member of TMI, gave a lecture at the Kyoto Institute of Technology in Japan. Titled "Functional Fiber and Composite Materials from Lignocellulosic Biomass," he presented  while on sabbatical this past semester. We look forward to his return for the Spring semester!
Engineers at The University of Texas at Austin are leading an academic and industry all-star team that aims to revolutionize the production of semiconductor chips with a new 3D printing method. The new approach, which the researchers are calling Holographic Metasurface Nano-Lithography (HMNL), aims for faster, more efficient and environmentally friendly production of advanced electronics.

Continental water-stress may soon meet its match, thanks to breakthrough work from the University of Texas at Austin scientist and engineer, Professor Guihua Yu of the Cockrell School of Engineering, who has just received the top honor — the Grand Discovery Prize — at the 2025 Global Prize for Innovation in Water (GPIW) in Saudi Arabia, in recognition of his pioneering hydrogels-based solar water technologies.
